Crunchy, Chewy, Slurpy, Sweet!
‘Crunchy, Chewy, Slurpy, Sweet!’ is a learning tool designed to teach kids aged 5-7 about the weird and wonderful textures, flavours and colours of fruits and vegetables. This tool is designed to encourage kids to approach fruits and vegetables with an open mind and to recognise the excitement that comes with experiencing a new flavour or texture.
Packaged in a branded tote-bag, this learning tool consists of a picture book, a set of flashcards, a seasons poster and an animated teaching resource to help parents facilitate the learning experience. ‘Crunchy, Chewy, Slurpy, Sweet!’ is guaranteed to make dinner time a whole lot easier.
As a little girl, I hated most fruits and vegetables. I was extremely stubborn and found mealtimes to be very unpleasant, often resulting in many tears and tantrums. That was untill I watched the Charlie and Lola episode ‘I Will Not Ever Never Eat a Tomato’ where Charlie persuades Lola to eat all these different foods using imaginative depictions. I thought the peas looked so delicious that I wanted to try them myself! I hope my learning tool, designed for kids aged 5-7, captures this moment that I experienced at a similar age.
The flashcard set is designed to be used during mealtimes to help kids identify and observe the different textures, tastes and colours of fruits and vegetables. This tool encourages kids to use descriptive language, to engage with new foods with openness, and to contribute to positive conversations during mealtimes.
This picture book is a rhythmic exploration of the different colours, textures and tastes of fruits and vegetables for kids. It features fruits and vegetables such as kale, tomato, banana and beetroot, a glossary, a teaching resource page and a pocket to store the flashcards.
The poster is designed to visualise the seasonality of fruits and vegetables, teaching kids how to identify what will taste best and when.
This teaching resource is designed to guide parents in facilitating kids engagement with the picture book, flashcards, and poster.
